Engine Valve

Engine Valve

RADO Engineering is a trusted two wheeler engine valve manufacturer in Rajkot, Gujarat, producing precisionengineered intake and exhaust valves designed to perform reliably under the extreme heat and pressure conditions inside twowheeler internal combustion engines. Manufactured from SS (Stainless Steel) and EN52 alloy steel, RADO engine valves deliver optimum strength, hightemperature corrosion resistance, smooth seating, and long operational life, making them a preferred choice for aftermarket distributors, auto parts wholesalers, and OEMcompatible fitment across India and export markets.

What Are Engine Valves and Why Do They Matter?

Engine valves are precision-machined components that control the flow of gases into and out of an engine's combustion chamber. Every four-stroke two-wheeler engine has two types of valves per cylinder:

  • Intake Valve (Inlet Valve) - Opens to allow the airfuel mixture to enter the combustion chamber during the intake stroke. Closes tightly during compression, combustion, and exhaust strokes.
  • Exhaust Valve - Opens to allow burnt combustion gases to exit the cylinder during the exhaust stroke. Closes tightly during intake, compression, and combustion strokes.

Both valves must seal perfectly against their seats in the cylinder head to maintain compression pressure. Any leakage, caused by worn valve faces, damaged stems, or poor seating results in:

  • Loss of compression and power
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Rough idling and poor throttle response
  • Engine overheating
  • Accelerated wear across the entire valve train

Product Overview

RADO Engineering produces engine valves for intake and exhaust application for two wheeler engines in Stainless Steel (SS) and EN52 grades.Available in multiple sizes to match a wide range of popular motorcycle and scooter models, each valve is precisionground to OEMmatching specifications for correct head diameter, stem diameter, stem length, and face angle, ensuring accurate seating, proper valve lift, and reliable sealing in the cylinder head.

Intake Valve vs Exhaust Valve - Material Difference

Understanding why different materials are used for intake and exhaust valves helps explain RADO's material selection and the quality difference it represents:

Intake Valve - Stainless Steel (SS)

The intake valve operates in a relatively moderatetemperature environment because the incoming airfuel mixture provides a cooling effect. Stainless steel is ideal here, it offers excellent strength, good corrosion resistance, precise machinability, and proven durability under the mechanical loads of continuous valve operation. The intake valves of the SS have dimensional stability and consistent seating face over a long service life.

Exhaust Valve — EN52 (HighChrome Silicon Steel)

The exhaust valve operates under extreme conditions, resisting the corrosive effects of hot combustion gases and the mechanical impact of repeated valve seating thousands of times per minute. EN52 (also designated X45CrSi9-3, a chromiumsilicon ferriticmartensitic steel) is specifically formulated for exhaust valve applications. Its high chromiumsilicon content provides exceptional oxidation resistance and hot strength, allowing the valve to maintain its geometry and seating integrity even under prolonged hightemperature operation. This is the same class of steel used in OEM exhaust valves across the Indian twowheeler industry.

Key Features

Corrosion Resistance

RADO engine valves are manufactured from corrosionresistant grades, Stainless Steel for intake valves and EN52 highchrome silicon steel for exhaust valves. This ensures the valves resist oxidation, hot gas corrosion, and chemical degradation from combustion byproducts throughout their operational life, even under the continuous hightemperature cycling of daily engine use.

Optimum Strength

Both SS and EN52 materials are selected for their high tensile and fatigue strength under the cyclic mechanical loads of valve operation, the valve is slammed against its seat hundreds of times per minute, every time the engine runs. RADO valves are engineered to absorb these impact loads without deformation, cracking, or loss of seating geometry.

Smooth Functioning

Precisionground valve stems and accurately finished valve faces ensure smooth, lowfriction operation within the valve guide and consistent, leakfree seating against the valve seat insert. This translates to quiet, smooth engine operation and consistent performance across the engine's RPM range.

Low Maintenance

The quality material grades and precision manufacturing used in RADO engine valves mean the valves retain their dimensional accuracy and seating geometry across extended service intervals. Valve clearances remain stable longer, reducing the frequency of valve adjustments and topend engine servicing.

Available in Multiple Sizes

RADO engine valves are available in multiple head and stem diameter configurations to match the specific requirements of a wide range of twowheeler engine models, from 100cc economy bikes to 150cc+ performance motorcycles and scooters. Both inlet and exhaust valve sizes are available per model.

Long Operational Life

The combination of highperformance material grades, precision machining, and accurate seating face geometry gives RADO engine valves an extended operational life, reducing replacement frequency and total cost of ownership for the end user.

How Engine Valves Work in a TwoWheeler Engine

A fourstroke twowheeler engine completes four distinct strokes in every power cycle, with the intake and exhaust valves controlling each phase:

Intake Stroke

The intake valve opens; the piston moves down, drawing the airfuel mixture into the cylinder. Exhaust valve remains closed.

Compression Stroke

Both valves close. The piston moves up, compressing the airfuel mixture. A tight valve seal is critical for maximum compression and combustion efficiency.

Power (Combustion) Stroke

Both valves remain closed. The spark plug ignites the compressed mixture; the explosion forces the piston down, generating power. Valve sealing is most critical here, any leakage wastes combustion pressure directly.

Exhaust Stroke

The exhaust valve opens; the piston moves up, pushing burnt gases out of the cylinder. Intake valve remains closed.

This cycle repeats continuously at engine speed. At 6,000 RPM, each valve opens and closes 50 times per second, demanding perfect dimensional consistency, surface hardness, and material integrity from every engine valve.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

RADO intake valves are manufactured from Stainless Steel (SS), chosen for its strength, corrosion resistance, and machinability. Exhaust valves are manufactured from EN52, a chromiumsilicon alloy steel (X45CrSi9-3) specifically formulated for hightemperature exhaust valve applications. This is the same class of material used in OEM twowheeler engine valves.

The intake valve controls the entry of the airfuel mixture into the combustion chamber and operates in a moderatetemperature environment. The exhaust valve controls the exit of hot combustion gases and operates at 700–900°C. Because of this temperature difference, intake and exhaust valves are made from different materials, Stainless Steel for intake, EN52 chromiumsilicon steel for exhaust.
